Kentucky is a place rich with history and is a diverse and dynamic area with health science degrees in Kentucky featured all over the state. Eastern Kentucky University
College of Health Sciences
Established in 1906, Eastern Kentucky University, the site on which the school was founded was originally another college called Central University, which was founded in 1874. That university had enrollment issues so it was consolidated with nearby Centre College. By 1922, the school started granting four-year degrees. Around 16,000 students take classes at EKU on a campus in Richmond of 892 acres. There is also a trio of regional campuses that students can use in Manchester, Corbin, and Danville. The motto of the school is “Get wisdom, get understanding,” and the sports teams for the school are known as the Colonels and the Lady Colonels.
Environmental Health Science
Future students who like biology and chemistry and are interested in becoming qualified for jobs with a healthy salary where it’s possible to make a difference in people’s lives would do well to consider EKU’s Environmental Health Science program. This bachelor of science degree program was established in the 1970s and was one of only 31 similar programs at schools around the country. The program is accredited by the National Environmental Health Science and Protection Council. The curriculum of the program deals with the biological, chemical, and physical threats to human health and the methods used for reducing those dangers. Courses include study of hazardous waste management, risk assessment, and epidemiology. Students take a variety of classes in science and mathematics like biology, chemistry, and several environmental health courses. In addition to completing required courses, students must also complete six credit hours of field experience as supervised with agencies or companies involved in environmental health sciences.

Murray State University
College of Health Sciences and Human Services
As a public university located in Murray, Kentucky, Murray State has almost 11,000 students attending and is the only public university in Kentucky that was featured in the top tier of schools in the “U.S. News & World Report” list of universities. The school features extension campuses in a variety of cities around Kentucky including Hopkinsville, Henderson, Paducah, and Madisonville. Originally established in 1922, the university was part of two schools created by the state’s assembly for the purposes of educating teachers. The other school established at that time was located in Morehead. The campus features a variety of beautiful historic buildings.
Bachelor of Science Occupational Safety & Health
This program is accredited by the Applied Science Accreditation Commission of ABET and requires students to complete 123 credit hours to obtain their B.S. While in the program, students learn a variety of technical and professional concepts designed to help students pursue careers after graduation. Students take a variety of broad core classes in the program like Critical Reading, Writing, and Inquiry, Introduction to Public Speaking, and Western Humanities Tradition. In addition, the program features degree-specific courses like Fundamentals of Management, Processes and Materials, and Fundamentals of Industrial Hygiene. The College of Health Sciences and Human Services focuses upon providing students with an excellent and valuable degree that will provide the right support for finding a lifelong career after graduation. In addition, students may choose to enter a graduate degree program after graduation and will find the core classes required of the program very valuable in supporting further degrees.

Northern Kentucky University

Built in Highland Heights, Northern Kentucky University was established in 1968. The campus is just southeast of the nearby city of Cincinnati and has over 15,000 students attending. The university is the state’s third largest and was inducted into the state system of universities in 1970. The school features a respected law program and has also been seen on ranking reports from publications like “U.S. News & World Report” and “Forbes.” The university actually came into existence as an extension campus for the University of Kentucky, but after 20 years it became its own campus with its own administration, name, and autonomy.
Bachelor of Science in Health Science
There are two tracks available to students in the Health Science program including clinical and non-clinical study. The clinical track offers current health care professionals who possess some relevant knowledge already the opportunity to expand upon their current knowledge. The non-clinical track is for students who don’t have a history in health sciences. The broad curriculum offers study in many vital areas including psychology, communication, health information, leadership, and human services. The types of theories and lessons given to students include technical theories, as well as humanistic studies to offer students the ability to enter advanced positions in the health care world. Many students decide to use their bachelor of science degree as preparation for graduate school. Non-traditional students who currently work and can’t take full time off for school benefit from the online degree program. Classes begin in the fall, summer, or spring and students may enroll in a full time or part time basis.

St. Catherine College
School of Health and Human Sciences
Saint Catharine College is a private college located in Springfield, Kentucky. It is affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church and was founded by the Dominican Sisters of Peace. The college has less than 1,000 students attending and between 300 and 400 of those students live on campus. The college’s first president was Mother Mary Louis Lodgsdon, who served as the school’s president from 1931 until 1941. The college is accredited by the Southern Association of Schools and Colleges and grants around 23 Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees in 27 different areas. The school also recently introduced graduate programs in 2012.
Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences
Students who wish to enter into an advanced degree program or work in management will find the Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences degree extremely valuable. Before students are accepted for formal study into the program, they must complete the equivalent of an Associate’s degree in Health Science or a related specialty. Students are offered classes in a variety of essential areas like research, which helps students to become adept problem solvers and critical thinkers. The program straddles the line between instruction on important career skills, as well as the theories tied to health sciences. Since St. Catharine College is also a liberal arts school, students also take a variety of core classes to provide a well-rounded approach to the degree. University of Kentucky
College of Health Sciences
Originally founded in 1865, the University of Kentucky is a public school built in Lexington. Founder John Bowman originally opened the school as the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Kentucky. The school is one of two land-grant universities in the state and is also the largest college in Kentucky with almost 29,000 students in attendance. The University of Kentucky was one of the first local colleges established where children who weren’t part of prominent, wealthy families could find an education. The Morrill Land-Grant Colleges Act of 1865 helped Bowman to create the university with the help of funding from the government.
Human Health Sciences (HHS) Baccalaureate Program
Students who wish to enter the health care field at an advanced level will benefit from UK’s Human Health Sciences program. Graduates receive a valuable variety of science courses, as well as healthcare lessons. Western Kentucky University

Established over a hundred years ago in 1906, Western Kentucky University was built in Bowling Green. The school is a public university and has over 21,000 students attending. The campus has undergone significant expansion since the 1990s and also offers students the opportunity to attend classes at satellite universities in Glasgow, Owensboro, and Elizabethtown. Although the university was officially founded in 1906, the school did exist as Glasgow Normal School for a quarter-century before students and faculty were transferred to Bowling Green from Glasgow. The school became eligible to grant four-year degrees in 1922 and became Western Kentucky University in 1965 after several decades of growth.
Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences
Students who wish to pursue a career in health and human sciences will benefit from the curriculum of the B.S. in Health Sciences degree. The interdisciplinary program features three goals for students to accomplish during enrollment. The first goal is to allow students to pursue a concentration within health sciences while earning a degree. Secondly, the program has an option for students who already have an Associate’s Degree and would like to continue their education in health sciences. Third, the program prepares students who wish to enter graduate school in various health concentrations the information they need to succeed in further schooling. To graduate, students must maintain a “C” average or better in all classes for the major and must also have an overall grade point average of 2.0 in order to graduate from the university. Some of the degree tracts available within Health Sciences include Environmental Health Science, Gerontology, and Social Services.
